Medway Council has run two major Dickens Festivals a year since 1979, celebrating the work of Charles Dickens and his connections with the Medway Towns. The Dickens Festival now runs on two days over a summer weekend, usually at the beginning of June, and the Dickensian Christmas Festival runs over two days in the build-up to Christmas, usually at the beginning of December. This page is part of our unofficial supporters website, which has been running has been running since 2006 with the aim
of sharing news to enthusiasts from outside the Medway Towns.
The Rochester Dickens Festival Supporters Page on Facebook We have run a Facebook page in support of the festivals since 2012. This carries links to public announcements about the Dickens festivals and allied events, and reaches about 1,000 subscribers. Following the disruption caused by Covid and changes in the way Facebook owrks the page has been drifting, so we have asked Young Victoria to join the team and use some of her social networking skills to rejuvenate the page.
The Rochester Dickens Festival Insiders Group on Facebook Late in 2017 we set up a linked Facebook group for enthusiasts who are or want be directly involved in making the festivals a success. The way Facebook sets up group pages makes it very easy for members to discuss any matter they wish. The originally gave the group the same name as the page, but this led to confusion so in 2019 we changed the name to Rochester Dickens Festival Insiders, which better reflects the membership and their involvement in the festivals. The page is visible
to anyone on Facebook, but only group members can post or comment. We welcome membership applications, especially from local enthusiasts.
